ABOUT THE ARTIST
Made Slowly, Meant to Be Loved
My name is Jamie and I’m a freelance potter, musician, educator, and the creative instigator behind the critically acclaimed musical Sign My Name to Freedom.
Discovery, history, and obsessive introspection shape my work. I’m intrigued by the idea that this may be our first time experiencing life, here, in this particular moment. Somehow, the right conditions brought us here, now.
I think about my work similarly. What first appears to be a mistake can become an important part of a piece’s character. Without it, I would never know its imperfect beauty. Like us, clay has a mind of its own and retains the memory of the conditions that shaped it.
I think of my ceramics as living artifacts. We all leave evidence of ourselves behind, intentionally or otherwise. Some things are preserved because we decide they are significant. Others become significant simply because they endure.
Once fired and vitrified, my creations carry the conditions of their making with them, preserving a record that no one can change.

MADE BY HAND
The Beauty of Imperfection
Every piece carries the marks of the hands that made it. Small variations in shape, texture, and finish are part of the process and give each piece its own character.
Nothing is made to be perfectly identical. That is what makes handmade pottery feel personal, honest, and unique.
